In English. A specialized pronunciation dictionary. Gives pronunciations in British and American English, in IPA. A wide selection of proper names. Pronunciation in the language of origin for a selection of words and names from foreign languages. The first edition in 1917, the English Pronouncing Dictionary, was written by Daniel Jones, who continued to work on subsequent editions (with major revisions in 1937 and in 1956) up until his death. A. C. Gimson followed as editor and introduced changes in the transcription in 1967’s 13th edition that have since become widely accepted. After Cambridge University Press acquired the rights, the 15th edition in 1997 added American pronunciations; all previous editions only contained British pronunciations.

In Korean. A general dictionary of Korean. Meant to be a prescriptive dictionary of Standard Korean produced by The National Institute of the Korean Language, the regulator of the language in South Korea. Gives pronunciation respelling in square brackets ([ ]) when the pronunciation differs from the usual spelling. Pronunciations are not given for loanwords, dialectal words, archaic words, or Korean words used in North Korea. Gives a wide selection of proper names, including biographical names of notable historical individuals active up to around the 1970s.
